How would your business look if you could almost guarantee that the lion share of your prospects said YES to checking out your business opportunity. That would feel amazing, wouldn’t it. If more of your prospects agreed to watch your business presentation it would increase your chances of recruiting them into your business and your business would more than likely grow to a “whole notha level”. Right? In today’s post I’m going to share with you 3 ways to ensure that your prospects start saying YES. Hang tight, because these 3 strategies just might surprise you.
Inspire your prospects to take action by taking action
I know this sounds like common sense and a little bit of double talk but it is not. You need to pull out your calendar and actually schedule out the dates and times that you reach out to your prospects. I’m talking about, “active prospecting” here. Once you get the lead, you have to take action by picking up the phone or Facebook chat and actually reach out to them. To be clear, I’m talking about a real lead that you generated through strategic prospecting. In other words, this is a real live person that responded to you by showing an interest in what you have to offer. That is the true definition of a qualified prospect. I’m not talking about spamming random people on Facebook or Instagram about your business. Amateurs spam, professionals prospect “like a boss.” You must be willing to do the real “work”.
Listen MORE to your prospects than the next guy
Don’t be a crocodile salesman. You know, big mouth, no ears.
Level up your listening skills if you want to get your prospects to take action and say YES to your business presentation. Listen to me. Do not underestimate the power of listening in this business. There a million reasons why is one of the top skills of highly successful sale people. But let’s focus on this one: Sincere sales people listen to their prospects, so that they can uncover their hidden pain points and provide them with an awesome solution that meets their needs.
This was the secret weapon I used to get so many prospects interested in my presentation. I would simply listen. Now, to my super extraverted personality types this my seem impossible because you have so much to say. But you can develop this discipline. I am naturally super extroverted, so I get it, however I have honed my listening skills (and nurtured my inner introvert) for this very reason. How can I possibly know what to share with a prospect if I’m so busy running my mouth and throwing up all over them about “how my products and opportunity is the best in the whole wide world and everybody needs it.” Your prospects can see right through that. They immediately put up their defenses because they’ve come across this type of behavior so many times before.
Here’s a funny story. When I was new to network marketing and did not have a clue about what I was doing, I got a lead from a friend about an interested buyer. This lady had to work late at night and could only “listen to my presentation” after work. First of all I am not a “late at night person” but I was desperate (as we all are starting out with no real skills) so I showed up ready to just sell her the product and get back home. I got there with the sole intention of making a quick buck by selling her the product that she was interested in. I had no intention of asking her to take a look at the business because I was preoccupied with getting home and taking a look at my bed. Typically, I can be a Chatty Cathy, but because I was sleepy I didn’t have much to say. So, I was forced to listen. As I listened to her pain points, I was able to ask the right questions. I became more interested in helping her than I was in just getting a quick sale. As a result, she told me that she wanted to rethink the purchase of the product and that she would call me on her lunch break the next day. So I went home sleepy with no sale. She called me the next day with her credit card in her hand ready to join “my team” and bought the biggest starter package. As I was getting her information, she told me that she never met anyone in this business who listened as intently as I did and so sincerely. She went on to say that I seemed genuine and that I wasn’t just trying to make a “quick buck” but that I really wanted to help her. I was flabbergasted. From that day on, I became a listener. My business grew exponentially because of this one skill.
This one is going to require a mindset shift “from selfish and desperate amateur to an expert skilled consultant.” I think maybe my earliest career experience trained me to be really good at this so listen up.
I spent my earliest corporate years as a CPA and an auditor and management consultant. In other words, I was a trained professional consultant. My clients actually needed me, more than I needed them. Not in pride, but in awareness, I carried (postured) myself accordingly. Having this so deeply ingrained in me, I lead my traditional businesses the same exact way. I offered an amazing product or service and I knew it. If the prospect didn’t see it as a fit or tried to talk down my price, I just moved on. That’s not pride, that’s confidence. It’s posture. As a network marketer, you need to cultivate posture. It will separate you from the masses.
Here is an example of how maintaining posture works when presenting to your prospects:
After you’ve listened to Tonya go on and on about how much she needs to lose weight and get healthy, you present your company’s product or the opportunity as a possible solution.
Then Tonya shows some resistance. You simply say (in your mellow toned, not emotionally hypey voice) Okay, no problem. I’m just trying to help you fix your problem or reach your goal. If you are cool with where you are. No problem. Just let me know if you change your mind.
At this point, you’ve taken the deal off of the table. This is how a professional consultant operates. Unlike a slimy, desperate sales person who will start begging at this point.
When you take away the offer in this manner, you immediately create posture. Now you have the upper hand.
It doesn’t matter if you are a 6 figure earner or have $5 in the bank. To be successful in this business you have to create posture with your prospects. You don’t become successful in this business by just recruiting a bunch of people. You become successful by recruiting the right people; those people who will stay in the business and produce. They typically join you because their reason for doing so is rooted deeply in a real problem that they need to fix. These are the qualified prospects that you are fishing for. The ones who stay. The ones who will overcome. The ones that produce and duplicate. The ones that will help grow your business.
When you become an action taker (action creates confidence) and learn to level up your listening skills creating posture will become a natural progression. Keep in mind: you are the authority, you are the consultant. Your prospects lives will get better because of the products, opportunities and the coaching that YOU provide.
These strategies and mindset shifts will change the way you do business forever.
